What is CrossFit?
CrossFit is: constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement.
So what does this mean for you?
Well, in CrossFit we never do a “routine” when you come into our classes. You never know what the workout is going to be! High intensity is added in after you know and can demonstrate proper form on the foundational movements of CrossFit which are Gymnastics, Olympic LIfting, & Metabolic Conditioning. And functional movement relates to your everyday life. Picking up a pen you dropped on the floor, lifting up your baby, carrying in the grocery bags should all be done with correct form to prevent injury. The form you learn in the box will help you in your everyday life!
Some terms we use often:
WOD– workout of the day
AMRAP– As Many Rounds As Possible
RFT– Rounds For Time
The best part of CrossFit is how a community forms through exercise. You become friends with the people you workout with. CrossFit brings together all shapes, sizes, ages, and professions. You are all working towards the same goals; finishing the workout and giving it all you have.
Everything is scalable in CrossFit so you could be working out next to your 80-year-old grandmother. She may be using PVC pipe for the workout instead of a barbell and squatting to a box but you are both doing the same workout.
The person who finishes last is usually the one that gets the loudest cheers in CrossFit. You receive encouragement and support during workouts from your coaches and fellow athletes which helps you to keep going.
